MIAMI (AP)—On the night Miami retired Alonzo Mourning’s number, Orlando’s big man wrecked the party.
Dwight Howard scored 22 points and grabbed 18 rebounds, passing Wilt Chamberlain as the youngest NBA player to reach the 5,000-board mark, and the Magic kept their grip on the No. 2 spot in the Eastern Conference by beating the Heat 101-95 on Monday night.
Rashard Lewis scored 21 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:32 remaining for Orlando (55-18), which stayed five games behind Cleveland and percentage points ahead of defending champion Boston in the East race.
Dwyane Wade scored 13 of his 42 points in the [...]

Magic win despite 42 from Wade
Magic head to Miami
Dwyane Wade has had some memorable performances against the Orlando Magic in his career. The only problem is it hasn’t led to many wins for the Miami Heat.
The Heat hope to avoid a 12th loss in 13 meetings with the Magic as they look for Wade to have another high-scoring effort Monday night in Miami.
Wade leads the league in scoring (29.8) and has helped the Heat (39-34) win 24 more games than a year ago to emerge as one of the top contenders for league MVP.
He scored 27 points in Saturday’s 102-95 win over Milwaukee to help Miami bounce back [...]
An interesting article written by Kyle Hightower comparing Dwight Howard’s famous “short hook” move to other big men greats such as Shaq, Tim Duncan, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon, Moses Malone and Kevin McHale.
By far the thing that earned Magic center Dwight Howard his ” Superman” moniker under the basket can be traced back to his ability to dunk and send blocked shots flying into the Amway Arena crowd.
But in many ways the hook shot has become Howard’s new toy of choice this season.
It is also easily the key component of the new skill set he’s been developing in [...]
I was looking through several NBA blogs and came across a fairly interesting article. The piece was about the hard work of Magic rookie Courtney Lee and his determination to be his best at the pro level. Now that wasn’t the suprising part, what really caught my eye was that it was written by a
Celtics blogger and I must say it was a well written writing considering it came from a fan of one of the teams the Magic will most likely have to go through in order to get to the finals. Here’s the complete article:
Courtney Lee plays good [...]
Dwight seeking Perfection
Dwight Howard has always wanted to be the best at what he does. Whether it’s being the best basketball player he can be or being a MAN in life. Howard recently posted on his blog this interesting piece on Perfection.
I’m somewhat of a perfectionist in everything I do, whether it’s my tie perfectly matching my shirt and jacket or my play on the court. I can have a 20-point, 20-rebound game, but if I miss a few free throws or turn the ball over too much then I’m not entirely happy with my effort.
I want to be one of the [...]
Magic/Bucks Highlights
Magic handle Bucks
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP)—Rashard Lewis scored 19 points, Hedo Turkoglu added 18 and the surging Orlando Magic beat the Milwaukee Bucks 110-94 on Friday night.
Dwight Howard added 18 points and eight rebounds in another strong defensive effort for Orlando, which held Milwaukee to 39.1 percent shooting. The Magic (54-18) have won five straight and 12 of their last 14 and stayed percentage points ahead of Boston for the Eastern Conference’s second seed.
Ramon Sessions and Charlie Bell had 19 points apiece for the Bucks, who lost their fourth straight and were dealt another crushing blow to their already fading playoff hopes. Milwaukee [...]
Good Yahoo article on the Magic
Yahoo Sports writer Tim Povtak wrote an interesting piece on Dwight Howard and the Magic.
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Magic didn’t just send a late-season message to the defending champion Boston Celtics on Wednesday night. They left them with a not-so-subtle reminder for their almost-inevitable second-round playoff matchup.
Dwight Howard has grown big enough and strong enough to force his will on even the best teams, and the Celtics are the latest contender to realize as much. With Howard delivering another of his Superman performances, the Magic led from start to finish before fighting off a late Celtics charge, pushing them [...]
Magic/Bucks Preview
By defeating a team they were chasing in the standings their last time out, the Orlando Magic took over second place in the Eastern Conference, giving them a chance to host a potential second-round playoff series against that opponent.
Any slip up the rest of the way could cost them that opportunity.
The Magic look to build off their latest victory Friday night and avoid a letdown against the struggling Milwaukee Bucks, whom they haven’t lost to at home in more than four years.
In a matchup featuring two of the best teams in the league, Orlando (53-18) defeated Boston 84-82 on Wednesday. [...]
It was one of the biggest games of the season, Dwight Howard knew he had to bring his A game; and his A game he brought. Finishing with a mind blowing 21 rebounds to go with his 24 points and four rejections. Here’s a what Howard had to say after the victory over the Celtics to claim a division title.
When I woke up Wednesday morning the first thing I thought about was how physical Boston was going to be and what I could do to not get involved with all the pushing and fighting. I tried to keep a level [...]
