It’s raining elbows

Stan Van Gundy once again seats a hot Rafer Alston in the game 4 overtime loss.    A decrease in playing time for Alston has been a theme in all three of Orlando’s loses in the finals.  Jameer Nelson doesn’t seem to be playing at the level he was in the regular season or even up to the level Anthony Johnson was playing at throughout the playoffs.  Van Gundy seems to be the only person in Orlando that hasn’t fallen in love with Rafer.

Missed free throws at the end of the fourth quarter helped give the Lakers a shot at tying the game, which they took full advantage of.  Derek Fisher, poorly guarded by Jameer Nelson, put up a 3 pointer with less than 5 seconds to tie the game, after two missed free throws by Dwight Howard.

Watching the Magic lose the early lead was reminiscent of early playoff games.  Just like the Lakers were able to dominate the second half they dominated over time.  Kobe Bryant seemed unstoppable.  His shots were dropping like Jameer Nelson after an elbow from Kobe.

Gasol touched the net on Lee's potential game winner and even though Howard's was much worse and more obvious, you can't use that. Pietrus, I'll give you, that was a double dribbled. Let's not get into big discussions about the officiating, because it's pretty awful both ways.

Agree with you 100% "just blog baby." The Lakers didn't win that game, the master of panic and his players gave away a win.

Rafer < 35 mpg = Disaster

How do you miss a 6'11" center putting his hand through the rim to block a dunk? How do you miss a Mickael Pietrus double dribble when he's alone on a fast break? How do you miss a J.J. Redick travel when he falls flat on his ass and both his feet slide a full foot?

That was a not a foul by Kobe. The only reason why Nelson took it on the chin was because he's a good 6 inches shorter than Kobe. If it was Pietrus, that would have been a turnover cause Kobe's elbow would have hit him in the chest. KB24 was already turning when Jammer came to help. There was no intent behind it at all.

Tough loss, I've been there, but that elbow had nothing to do with not fouling when the Lakers took the ball the length of the court, Jameer backing off when shooting a three was the only option and missing free throws that would have iced the game.

Shaq kinda called this one. I like Stan Van but he did let his team down.

Seriously, how do you miss an elbow like that if you're an NBA official?
