After working out PG Jason Williams on Tuesday at the RDV Sportsplex, the Orlando Magic have decided to sign the 33 year old veteran on Wednesday.

J-Will will join Anthony Johnson backing up Jameer Nelson.

The RealGM.com staff quoted Magic General Manager Otis Smith on the rationale behind the signing.

“Jason (Williams) provides depth and leadership to our backcourt,” said Smith. “He is a veteran point guard that knows what it takes to help us reach our ultimate goal. We are excited to add him to our team.”

Tania Ganguli of the Orlando Sentinel is also reporting that Orlando has agreed to terms with Williams.

“We knew going into the workout what he can do as a player,” Magic Coach Stan Van Gundy said. “This guys’ played in the nba for 10 years been very successful. You know he’s got great skills can really see the floor and pass. Deep range on his jumpshot. With a guy who’s been out a year you just want to make sure that physically he’s OK.”

Williams will have to work his way back into playing shape after taking a one year hiatus from the NBA, but he should have time to do that because he isn’t eligible to return to the NBA until September 26.

“With a year off he’s gonna have to really put in some work to get back into optimal shape,” Magic Coach Stan Van Gundy said. “He’s not in bad shape, he’s a guy who has the type of body that gets in shape quickly. He’s got five weeks, closer to six until the start of camp. He’ll get to work starting next week.”

Williams, better known to some as White Chocolate, has averaged 11.4 PPG and 6.3 APG over his NBA career.
