Preview: Orlando Magic @ Toronto Raptors

AUTHOR: Andrew Melnick | IN: Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

First Orlando, then New Jersey, now Toronto.
What’s next? Chapel Hill?
After tonight, Vince Carter will have hit three stops on what the Orlando Sentinel is calling the “Vinsanity Reunion Tour,” but it is unknown if Carter will play after suffering an ankle injury in the second quarter of Friday night’s win over the Nets.
The other major storyline of the night is that the Magic will face their former teammate, Raptors Forward Hedo Turkgolu. Turkoglu spent five seasons with the Magic before signing with the Raptors as a free agent in July.

Magic Overcome Adversity, Beat the Nets 95-85

AUTHOR: Andrew Melnick | IN: Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Orlando Magic overcame terrible 3-point shooting, poor free throw shooting, sloppy play and an injury to Guard Vince Carter to defeat the New Jersey Nets 95-85 on Friday night.
In Head Coach Stan Van Gundy’s post-game press conference, he said he liked this game better than Orlando’s 120-106 blowout win over Philadelphia on Wednesday because of  the way the Magic defended the Nets, holding them to just 85 points on 38.5% shooting from the field.
Vince Carter started the game with a bang as he drove down the lane and finished with a thunderous slam dunk. He was scoring from the [...]

Vince Carter Injured in Second Quarter

AUTHOR: Andrew Melnick | IN: Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Vince Carter’s homecoming was going exactly as planned. Carter was having an excellent game until he suffered an ankle injury with about 3 minutes remaining in the second quarter when he stepped on the foot of his former teammate, Nets Guard Devin Harris.
His injury is being classified as a sprain and the Magic called his return “questionable,” but he did not return. He finished with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and had 4 assists and 3 rebounds.
UPDATE: Brian Schmitz is reporting that Vince Carter’s mother classified his injury as a minor sprain.
Carter sprained his left ankle in the second quarter [...]

Orlando Magic News & Notes

AUTHOR: Andrew Melnick | IN: Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: None Yet

Former Magic Guard Courtney Lee still loves Orlando even though he was “devastated” when he first heard about the deal that sent him to New Jersey.
Lee felt floored when he learned that he, Rafer Alston and Tony Battie had been traded to the New Jersey Nets for eight-time all-star Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson.
“It was devastating,” Lee says now. “I was just at home getting ready to watch the draft, and then you get a phone call saying that you’ve been traded. It was a big shocker at the time. It hit me pretty hard. Time heals a lot.”
Tonight, he [...]

Orlando Magic News & Notes: Magic Start 1-0

AUTHOR: Andrew Melnick | IN: Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Check out my recap of Orlando’s 120-106 win over the 76ers here.
Mike Bianchi says that this season is about unfinished business for the Magic.
O’er the land of the free.
And the home of the future NBA champions.
If little Gina Marie Incandela had her way, that’s probably how she would have ended her incredible rendition of the national anthem Wednesday night.
That’s how much faith she has in her Orlando Magic.
Looking ahead. Not back.
Unfinished business.
That’s what this Magic season is about.
Not just for the team.
But for the fans.
Even the littlest fan.
“It was sad when we lost last year,” said Gina, the Magic’s melodic good [...]

Second Unit Shines As the Magic Rout the Sixers

AUTHOR: Andrew Melnick | IN: Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

With the Phillies winning game 1 of the World Series against the Yankees, it was a great night for the city of Philadelphia.
Well, most of the city.
It wasn’t much of a night for the 76ers.
The Orlando Magic celebrated the hanging of their Eastern Conference Championship banner by routing the Sixers 120-106.
The Magic came out running, but were very sloppy in the first quarter. Philadelphia took a 22-19 lead after Thaddeus Young hit a 3-pointer. Louis Williams followed that up with a lay-up and the Sixers took a 5-point lead. Williams was on fire in the first quarter, scoring 10 points [...]
