Vince Carter Injured in Second Quarter

Vince Carter’s homecoming was going exactly as planned. Carter was having an excellent game until he suffered an ankle injury with about 3 minutes remaining in the second quarter when he stepped on the foot of his former teammate, Nets Guard Devin Harris.
His injury is being classified as a sprain and the Magic called his return “questionable,” but he did not return. He finished with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and had 4 assists and 3 rebounds.
UPDATE: Brian Schmitz is reporting that Vince Carter’s mother classified his injury as a minor sprain.
Carter sprained his left ankle in the second quarter when he stepped on the foot of Nets point guard Devin Harris.
He did not come back on the floor at Izod Center, where he played the past four-plus years before he and forward Ryan Anderson were sent to Orlando in a blockbuster trade. He was off to a spectacular night, scoring 13 in the first period before finishing with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
The Magic (2-0 and 11-0 counting the preseason) have two games left on their first road trip of the season, and Carter is listed day-to-day with the club heading to Toronto to revisit the city where his career began.
His mother, Michelle Carter-Scott, said her son had a “mild sprain.”

In his post-game press conference, Stan Van Gundy said that Carter did not have a lot of swelling and that the x-rays were negative but they wouldn’t know the full story until tomorrow.
Carter said that he is “hopeful” that he can play Sunday in Toronto against his former club and is likely to be listed as day-to-day.
