Schmitz: Nelson Could Return As Early As December 2

AUTHOR: | IN: Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: None Yet

Brian Schmitz is reporting that Jameer Neslon, who was originally thought to be out for four-to-six weeks, could return as early as December 2. The Magic said that PG Jameer Nelson could be out four to six weeks, but teammates suggest he could miss as little as three weeks. If that’s a target date, Nelson could return Dec. 2 for a home game against the New York Knicks. The more likely scenario might be Nelson coming back during the club’s four-game West road trip Dec. 5-11. Nelson underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus on his left knee [...]

The Magic will take on the Boston Celtics tonight. You can read my preview of tonight’s game here. Rashard Lewis declared Friday night’s game a second-chance “statement game.” “It’s a big game for us,” Lewis said. “We’re playing against one of the best teams in the NBA. I think it’s a statement game, just like the Cleveland Cavaliers game was a statement game. They came in and beat us. It’s going to be tough going into Boston, but at the same time, I think we’re going to see where we’re at.” Joshua Robbins has the full story here. Hardwood Houdini [...]

The Orlando Magic return to the site of perhaps their biggest road victory in franchise history on Friday when they take on the Boston Celtics at the T.D. Banknorth Garden on Friday night. The two teams met in the second round of the 2009 playoffs and the Magic won a tough, hard fought seven-game series after the Celtics took a 3-2 lead. Orlando is coming off of their most complete win of the season, a 108-94 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder Wednesday. The Celtics are also coming in on a good note after getting a 109-95 win against the [...]

Orlando Magic News & Notes: Revenge

AUTHOR: | IN: Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Orlando Magic defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 108-94 Wednesday night. See a recap, my analysis, and quotes from the game here. Joshua Robbins says that better energy yields a better result. “Whatever it takes for us to win, we have to do it,” Dwight Howard said. “I think tonight as a team we brought a lot of energy and our effort was great from the first quarter to the fourth quarter. So, that was a great thing to see because in past games we haven’t played with a lot of energy. But tonight we made a great step forward [...]

Energized Magic Blowout Thunder

AUTHOR: | IN: Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Orlando Magic got a little revenge on Wednesday night. They defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 108-94 to avenge their 28-point loss in Oklahoma City just a week ago. The Magic played their best game of the season and took a 30-point lead into the fourth quarter before they coughed up a big chunk of the lead in garbage time. The Magic played very well on both ends of the floor and Head Coach Stan Van Gundy was very happy with the team’s performance. “That was a good game to see right there. We came with a lot of energy [...]

Bench Plays Big Role in Magic Victory

AUTHOR: | IN: Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: None Yet

Four Magic starters scored in double figures in their 108-94 win over the Thunder, but the bench may have played just as well. They combined to score 44 points on 48% shooting (16-of-33). They grabbed 15 rebounds and dished out 9 assists. J.J. Redick had one of his most accurate shooting nights of the season. He shot 3-of-4 from the field and scored 9 points. All four of his attempts were 3-pointers. He was very smart with the ball, turning it over only once. He also had 3 rebounds, 3 assists and played some of his best defense of the [...]

Otis Smith Not Interested in Adding A Point Guard to the Roster

AUTHOR: | IN: Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: None Yet

Despite Jameer Nelson’s injury, HoopsWorld.com’s Steve Kyler and Alex Kennedy are reporting that Magic General Manager Otis Smith has no interest in adding another Point Guard to Orlando’s roster at this time. Magic GM Otis Smith has downplayed that the club is close with Antonio Daniels, but according to sources has met with Daniels agent twice over the past three days. The word is Daniels camp would agree to a non-guaranteed deal, however Otis seems unwilling to add anyone at this time. Click here to see their courtside blog for more on ths story. This is not a complete surprise. [...]

Orlando Magic News & Notes: Replacing Jameer

AUTHOR: | IN: Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: None Yet

Jameer Nelson is out for four-to-six weeks with a torn labrum. Brian Schmitz says that Otis Smith has not ruled out signing Allen Iverson. “It’s hard to say. You have to evaluate it. But it has to make sense for your team,” he said. “I just got the news (on Nelson) a few hours ago, so I can’t rule out anything yet. You have to take a step back. That’s how we’ve done things.” Asked specifically about Iverson — who split with the Memphis Grizzlies recently — he said, “He’s still out there, isn’t he?” Meaning nobody else has gobbled [...]
