After the Boston Celtics beat the Orlando Magic, Kendrick Perkins told the media that Dwight Howard didn’t like to play physical.
“You’ve got to play him physical. You watch other teams around the league, they pretty much let him set up shop,” Perkins said, according to The Associated Press. “You’ve just got to go in and be prepared to go to war. You’ve got to fight him first, hit him first. . . . He likes to be physical, but he doesn’t like anyone to be physical with him.”
Howard was asked to respond to Perkins’ post-game comments.
“That’s fine,” Howard calmly told reporters. “I don’t think that they [the Celtics' post players] have to go through what I go through every night. So, I’ll bet that if Kendrick had to do what I do every night, then he would have something to say. But that’s fine.”

Howard is right. Perkins doesn’t see double teams. He doesn’t get continuously hammered throughout the game.
Howard is played like that every night. He is grabbed, hit and shoved and plays through it so I don’t think there is any merit in what Perkins says.

I think they key to the Celtics is that they have multiple guys to throw at Howard, which other teams don't. Rasheed has always defended him well. Perk usually gets in foul trouble against Howard and when he has gone to the bench in each game this season, Howard still wasn't effective.
Perkins is a good defender but I think the reason that Boston has success against Howard is because they have more than one guy who can do at least a decent job against him.
