Orlando Magic Head Coach Stan Van Gundy Will Coach in the All-Star Game

Due to Orlando’s win over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday evening, Orlando Magic Head Coach Stan Van Gundy will be the Head Coach of the Eastern Conference All-Star team two weeks from today. Here is the official word from the Orlando Magic.

Second time Van Gundy as earned All-Star coaching honor

Orlando, FL – Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy will serve as coach for the Eastern Conference at the 2010 NBA All-Star Game, which will be played on Sunday, Feb. 14 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

With the Magic’s victory at Detroit on Sunday night, Orlando clinched the second-best record in the Eastern Conference through Jan. 31 at 32-16 (.667). Cleveland’s Mike Brown coached the East in last year’s game and is not eligible for the honor this season. Van Gundy also served as coach for the Eastern Conference at the 2005 NBA All-Star Game, where he led the East to a 10-point win.

Currently in his third season with Orlando, Van Gundy has a regular season record of 143-69 (.675) with the Magic. Under his leadership, Orlando has won back-to-back Southeast Division titles (2007-08, 2008-09). Last season, Van Gundy guided the Magic to the Eastern Conference championship and a berth into the 2009 NBA Finals. He has a career NBA head coaching record of 255-142 (.642)

The NBA All-Star Game will broadcast live on TNT, ESPN Radio and in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide at 8 p.m. EST on Sunday, Feb. 14.
