AUTHOR: | IN: News, Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: None Yet

Dwight Howard was once again out doing an event for his fans. This time, he worked at Champs Sports, but he still had one thing on his mind – a championship. And on Tuesday, when Howard worked the register at the Champs Sports store at Florida Mall as a promotion for the NBA Store and adidas, the all-star center saw the appeal the team now has after reaching the NBA Finals last spring. Now, Howard dreams of how that passion would only soar if the Magic can win the NBA championship this season. “I think it would change Orlando. Me [...]

Orlando Magic News & Notes: Dwight’s Defensive Campaign, Turk’s Disappointing Season

AUTHOR: | IN: News, Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Magic had an impressive month of March and Brian Schmitz has those numbers here. Mike Bianchi says the Magic are lucky they did not re-sign Hedo Turkoglu. Time once again to bow down before a statue of Orlando general manager Otis Smith and start reciting the mantra of Magic fans: “In Otis we trust! In Otis we trust! In Otis we trust!” All that consternation about Smith letting Turkoglu go during the offseason and bringing in Vince Carter seems silly now, doesn’t it? In case you haven’t heard, Turkoglu has been benched in Toronto and is being castigated by [...]

On June 24th, 2004, the Orlando Magic changed the course of their franchise by selecting Dwight Howard out of Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy with the #1 overall pick. Later in the night, the Magic traded a future first round pick to the Denver Nuggets to acquire St. Joseph’s Point Guard Jameer Nelson, who was the National Player of the Year in college basketball. Just five days later, the Magic traded Tracy McGrady, along with Juwan Howard, Tyronn Lue and Reece Gaines to Houston in exchange for Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley and Kelvin Cato. Eventually after trading all three of these [...]

Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel reports that Vince Carter is listed as day-to-day with a sprained right toe. The Magic’s next game is Thursday in Dallas, and Carter might be able to return from a sprained right toe he sustained in Sunday’s win against Denver. The team said that x-rays revealed no serious damage. Joel Glass, the Magic’s vice president of communications, said Monday that Carter is day-to-day. Carter had twisted his right ankle in Atlanta, but played on. The collective trauma on the foot might have been too much when he sprained the toe, leaving after playing about [...]

Orlando Magic News & Notes: J.J. Redick Has The Best Game Of His NBA Career

AUTHOR: | IN: News, Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Orlando Magic got a win over one of the elite teams in the NBA without their second leading scorer, Vince Carter, when they defeated the Denver Nuggets 103-97 on Sunday night. J.J. Redick did not exit the game after checking in with 10:25 to play in the first quarter. Redick’s ability to stay on the floor for more minutes than any Magic player this season – he was out there for all 103 Magic points after coming in with Orlando down 2-0 – helped the Magic capture what coach Stan Van Gundy called “one of our best wins of [...]

Vince Carter played less than two minutes in Sunday night’s victory over the Denver Nuggets because of a toe injury but Magic Head Coach Stan Van Gundy doesn’t seem worried, saying that he didn’t expect Carter to miss much time. “That’s something that, as a coach, you can’t spend that much time worrying about. You’re going to play with who you’ve got.” Josh Robbins has more on the injury here. (Andrew Melnick is Howard the Dunk’s lead blogger and a contributor at NFL Mocks and Sir Charles In Charge.
