Stan Van Gundy – “You’d Have To Be An Absolute Idiot” To Not Vote Dwight Howard As Defensive Player Of The Year

AUTHOR: | IN: Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: None Yet

Per Tania Ganguli of the Orlando Sentinel, Stan Van Gundy thinks “you’d have to be an absolute idiot” to leave Howard off of your ballot after two voters did not vote for Howard. “Yeah those two people haven’t watched the NBA this year,” Van Gundy said. “They haven’t. Seriously, I don’t want to get into too much name-calling. You have to be an absolute idiot. You either have not watched an nba game and should not have a ballot or you know absolutely nothing about basketball. Nothing.” Van Gundy has been saying for weeks that the voting for that award [...]

Orlando Magic News & Notes: J-Will One & Done, Bobcats Disrespected?

AUTHOR: | IN: News, Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: None Yet

Dwight Howard was named Defensive Player Of The Year for the second consecutive season. I was able to attend the press conference and I pointed out the highlights and collected some interesting quotes that you can find here. There are a few things the Magic need to do to win game 2. 2. Get better shots for Vince Carter, especially ones going to the rim. Carter suffered through a miserable first playoff game with the Magic, making just four of 19 shots and missing all five of his 3-point shots. To make matters worse, he was hit with a technical [...]

Dwight Howard’s Press Conference Highlights

AUTHOR: | IN: Media Availabilty, Orlando Magic, Pressers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

I was able to attend Dwight Howard’s Press Conference today and see him receive the NBA’s Defensive Player Of The Year award. Here are a few of the highlights from Tuesday’s presser. Otis Smith’s opening comments: “It’s not often a general manager gets to do this back-to-back, get to give out an award or talk about an award for a player of Dwight’s stature for Defensive Player Of The Year. It doesn’t happen in most General Manger’s lifetime and for it to happen is just short of amazing. He promised me more than this Defensive Player Of The Year award. [...]

Stan Van Gundy Is Not Worried About Vince Carter

AUTHOR: | IN: Analysis, Media Availabilty, Orlando Magic | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

12 points. 4-of-19 from the field. 0-of-5 from beyond the arc. Six fouls. Sure it was a terrible line for Vince Carter in his Magic playoff debut but against the Charlotte Bobcats on Sunday night, but when discussing his night, most are forgetting the most important number. One. It was just one game. One poor shooting night does not mean the Magic made the mistake of the century in dealing for Carter nor does it mean that Carter will shoot like this for the rest of the series.
