The NBA Has Taken Notice Of The New-Look Magic
The Orlando Magic’s nine-game winning streak has other teams in the league taking notice. Other clubs obviously know the Magic have been one of the league’s best teams during the Stan Van Gundy era but now they could be even more dangerous with their new acquisitions. When you acquire players who have had as much success in the league as Gilbert Arenas, Hedo Turkoglu and Jason Richardson, they may be right. “They have a good team,” former Magic and current Milwaukee Bucks guard Keyon Dooling said. “They have a lot of good players.” When the trades originally went down, most [...]
Brand spankin new S&M Power Poll! Plus bonus commentary!
New week, same team up top. The Spurs continue to win games but are starting to show signs of returning back to earth. The Heat, Celtics and Lakers are all rolling along right now and you can make an argument for any of those teams to be at the number one spot. The Magic, while playing great and having won 9 in a row, still have a lot to prove before they are to be considered on that level. The upcoming road trip should tell a lot about the Blue and White. Below are the updated Power Rankings through games played [...]
Led by Hedo Turkoglu’s 13-point, 17-assist performance, the Magic were able to overcome a very poor defensive performance and a 16-point first half deficit to defeat the Dallas Mavericks 117-107. The Mavericks got off to a hot start, taking a 28-19 lead at the end of the first quarter. They extended the lead to 50-34 on two Shawn Marion free throws with 3:03 to play in the first half but the Magic used a barrage of 3-pointers – Jason Richardson had 9 points (he drew foul on a 3-point attempt and mad two 3-pointers) in the last 1:49 – to [...]
Orlando Magic @ Dallas Mavericks
The Orlando Magic will immediately put their eight-game winning streak on the line when they travel to Dallas to take on the Mavericks Saturday night. The Mavericks will be without their starting forwards, Dirk Nowitzki and Caron Butler, who is out for the season. Dallas’ loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder Thursday night was their third loss in their last five games, dropping them to 26-9. They have the second-best record in the Western Conference and are 3.5 games behind the San Antonio Spurs in the Southwest division. By defeating the Houston Rockets Friday, the Magic won their eighth straight [...]
It’s no secret that people always pull a little bit harder for the mysterious young players at the end of the bench. For Earl Clark and Magic fans it’s no different. In comes a former lottery pick -something Magic fans aren’t used to seeing- with talent, height and a mini fro and naturally the wonder will be there. Despite being a throw-in during the recent mega trades, Earl has a real chance to become a very good player in this league. Stan Van Gundy on Earl Clark after last night’s Magic victory, “I think that Earl is going to be [...]
Magic Ground Rockets For Eighth Straight Victory
The Magic won their eighth straight game Friday night after handily defeating the visiting Houston Rockets by a score of 110-95. After a huge third quarter by the Magic which included 13 points from Ryan Anderson, a 17-0 run and a Hedo to Dwight TurkOOP, the refs should have just called the game. The Rockets players hung their heads and weren’t really willing to put up a fight. Rick Adelman said it best, “We just fell apart in the third quarter. We struggled offensively, we just gave in at the other end. We gave up 39 points, that’s not going [...]
Houston Rockets @ Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic will be back in action when they play host to the Houston Rockets Friday night in a nationally televised game. Despite a lackluster performance, the Magic extended their season-long winning streak to seven games with a 97-87 win over the Milwaukee Bucks Wednesday night. The Rockets looked like they were back on track after winning seven of eight games but have now lost four of their last five, including three straight. Their 103-100 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers Wednesday dropped their record to 16-19, dropping them into a tie for last place in the Southwest division. [...]

New Defensive Mindset Orlando’s newest perimeter players, Gilbert Arenas and Jason Richardson, have never been known as lock-down defenders. That doesn’t mean the potential to be a good defender isn’t there and both have shown flashes of doing so at different point in their career. Playing defense for the Orlando Magic is a completely new concept for each player. They’re part of a brand new system and it’s one they haven’t really seen before. “I’m trying to get the old system out,” Arenas explained. “It’s basically, don’t let them drive, protect the middle.” With Dwight Howard in the middle, a [...]
