Orlando Magic News & Notes: Lockout Risks, Harper Unlikely To Go Overseas

Second round pick Justin Haprer is unlikely to go overseas during the lockout according to Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel: Harper’s agent told the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday that although he and Harper have discussed potential opportunities in Europe, it’s probably in Harper’s “best interests” to remain in the United States and wait for the lockout to end. “We’re exploring all opportunities for Justin,” said Lance Young, Harper’s agent. “I think that’s the bottom line. HtD’s Brian Serra reported Jameer Nelson will likely cancel his “Building Magic” campaign, a trip back home he makes annually with his teammates: In what has become the annual offseason bro-building event, Jameer Nelson’s “Building Magic” is likely to be cancelled this year. In a conversation with Jameer’s agent, Steve Mountain, Magic Basketball Online has learned that there are currently no plans to hold this event. The lockout was cited as the primary reason. Orlando Pro Summer League Cancelled

Unfortunately, the Orlando Pro Summer League has officially been cancelled per Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel: The NBA lockout forced the cancelation of the AirTran Airways Pro Summer League, one of Central Florida’s signature annual sporting events. Though closed to the public, the week of exhibition games has helped rookies transition to pro ball, has given others a chance to earn training-camp invitations and has provided a relatively small, but welcome, economic boost to local businesses.
